| Ms. Reno, I can tell you that the "howler" is in fact very real. I moved to the Ozarks (Reeds Spring, MO) about 6 years ago from Chicago. I live on Table Rock Lake, 15 very wooded acres. One night around 8:00 PM I was driving home from my son's football practice and saw the "Howler" run across the road. I had no idea what I just saw! It was huge (blackish) cat / elk looking animal that had to be 200+ pounds that moved very strange. I have English Mastiffs (big dogs) and some people mistake them for bears... I know BIG animals and this was no dog, bear, cat, deer, whatever!!! I have never seen such an animal. I read your story and thought it must be a Howler. I would love to learn more about this animal and I will try to get a good photo!!! Steven Ellerth |
I just want you to know that the Ozark Howler is not an animal, but a spiritual thing. You should know better. Anonymous |
| Kelly, I grew up in the Ozark Mountains and I saw an Ozark Howler when I was a kid. I was sitting out on the back porch, it was summer and I was just looking out in the field and I saw it creep by, a huge black panther'ish creature. I'll never forget it. I ran and told my step-dad and he said I was imagining things. It wasn't until I heard your story that I knew what it was called. S.L. |
We've got Howlers around here. I saw one sleeping on the hood of my daughter's car the other night. We had some light snow and it must have been keeping warm. You keep your eyes and ears open around here. They're out there all right. B.C. |
| If you have an Ozark Howler story please write to me and I'll post it. Thanks to everyone who has shared their stories so far. Kelly Reno |

THE FOLLOWING PICTURES WERE SENT TO ME AT OZARKHOWLER.COM BY AL GALLO. HE DISCOVERED A VERY LARGE, CAT-LIKE CARCASS ON HIS PROPERTY IN THE OZARKS. |
